Logic Control

Logic control is becoming more and more accessible. They are now even easier to use to replace older control systems based on timers, relays, simple counters and even mechanical cam sequencers. This allows multiple products to be replaced by a single, compact logic controller that can perform all the functions of delay timers, recyclers, and relay logic. The programming is now function block based - no programming language to learn - and solutions can be up and running in hours - not days or weeks.

Each manufacturers logic control offers common logic functions. These functions form the basic building blocks for any control program and provide the majority of control functions that would have original been performed by relay logic, timers and counters used in control panels.

  • Basic Boolean logic - AND, and OR functions, also addition & subtraction integer functions
  • Timer Functions - On-Delay, Off-Delay, Recycler functions - and many more
  • Counters - Up & Down Counting functions with reset
  • Timeswitch - Functions based on real-time clock & day of week (Often with automatic daylight savings change)

Most manufacturers offers different advanced features in addition to the basic logic function set. These advanced functions compliment the basic logic control and allow more complex control solutions to be achieved. These additional advanced functions include:

  • Temperature inputs - PT100
  • Analogue I/O - 0-10v
  • PWM speed control outputs
  • High speed counters
  • Multi-function displays
  • Ethernet communications
  • Wireless remote access

Below are example applications using logic control

Conveyor position control - Conveyor speed control, and product position control

Water supply tank control - Monitor & maintain liquid level in a tank by controlling a pump

Batch counting - Overview of a batch counting application with operator batch size control

Gate control system - Automated sliding gate control system combining sensing & logic control

Temperature regulation - Basic climate control application with heating & cooling operation

Lighting Control - Interior & exterior lighting control with user overide feature
