The silicone rubber sheet creates an air- and watertight seal, because its closed-cell structure prevents liquids and gases from passing through. It also boasts UV and ozone resistance and retains its properties in a range of temperatures from -60°C to +200°C. That makes it suitable for a variety of harsh environments. The rubber sheet also has a low compression rate, returning to its original shape after pressing or deforming. In addition, it's a useful soundproofing layer, as it reduces vibration and noise.
