Why do I need a locating ring?


SKF's plummer block and pillow block housings are designed to hold bearings in both the locating and non-locating position. While non-locating bearings can be allowed to move axially along the shaft while it's spinning, locating bearings need to stay in one place. Using a locating ring stops the bearing from slipping while the shaft is in motion.
