The metal core is an aluminium alloy which carries mechanical loads while the chloroprene rubber layer provides electrical insulation and cushions conductors against chafing.

The closed inside diameter of 12.7mm gives a defined loop for maintaining cable geometry and preventing movement where space is limited.
