    USB Connectors

    USB (Universal serial bus) connectors are a style of electrical connector that has a flat, typically rectangular-shaped connection into which a corresponding plug fits. They're commonly found on computers, hubs or any range of peripherals such as printers, scanners, audio interfaces and test equipment among many more. You can learn more in our complete USB connectors guide.

    USB connectors have many types of variations and different speeds, however, they all do the same job. Typically the job of a USB is to transport data and power to a device through various communication protocols. Our USB connectors can also be paired with a variety of USB accessories to further enhance your options.

    How does a USB connector work?

    USB connectors can be connected to PCBs (printed circuit boards) or used to create USB cables using the terminals on the connectors. They can also be used in conjunction with or to replace panel mount connectors in, for example, audio panel interfaces or computer systems.

    Types of USB connectors

    • USB Type A
    • USB Type B
    • USB Type C
    • Mini USBs
    • Micro USBs

    Each of the USBs come in a variety of speeds, types and what communication protocol they can be used with. When picking the right connector for you, it's important to take into account the key attributes such as;

    • Mounting type: Wheter you need a straight PCB connection type, or a cable mounted device.
    • Gender: USB ports come in either a female or male gender.
    • USB version: USB version defines what shape the USB will be. USB C is the most up-to-date and fastest connector to date.

    Different mounting types for USB connectors

    You can choose from a range of mounting options, including panel, surface, through-hole and cable mounts. There are designs with waterproof housing (for example made from rugged thermoplastic) for added protection and durability, these are suitable for harsh environments, where protection from water and dust is essential.
