MCP19111 PMBus-Enabled POL Evaluation Board

This Microchip Evaluation Board demonstrates the MCP19111 digitally enhanced PWM Controller in a PMBus-enabled Point-of-Load Converter application. The board converts a 7V to 14V input range to an adjustable output of 0.8V to 3.6V. Nearly all operational and control system parameters of the MCP19111 are programmable and readable via PMBus communications.

The board provides all the needed circuitry to get a working demonstration up and running, with the MCP19111 being pre-programmed with the required firmware. The Microchip PMBus Monitoring Graphical User Interface (GUI) is used to monitor and configure the MCP19111. Alternatively the MCP19111 can be reprogrammed with user designed firmware through the on-board In-Circuit Serial Programming (ICSP) header.

The featured MCP19111 is a digitally enhanced PWM Controller. The device integrates an 8-bit PIC Microcontroller with a PWM Current Mode Controller to provide a flexible and customisable Buck Controller solution. The PWM Controller regulates the output of the DC-DC converter while the MCU dynamically customises the device. Operating parameters, start-up and shut-down profiles, protection levels and fault handling procedures can all be tailored to create a high efficiency buck converter.

Note

To reprogram the MCP19111 PMBus-Enabled POL Evaluation Board a Microchip PICkit In-Circuit Debugger/Programmer (Microchip part PG164130) is required. This is not included in the kit.
