Flexible Beam Couplings

Flexible beam couplings are small mechanical devices that connect the ends of two shafts for the purpose of transmitting power. Their flexibility allows for the transmission of torque between two shafts, while compensating for the inevitable misalignment present in a coaxial shaft assembly that can be angular, axial, parallel or a combination of these.

How do flexible beam couplings work?

Flexible beam couplings minimise the misalignment effect and reduce consequences such as vibration, noise, wear of seals and bearings, power losses and fatigue failure of couplings and shafts. If your application requires high torsional stiffness, consider rigid shaft couplings.

Typically, flexible beam couplings are made from stainless steel or aluminium, but are also available in polyurethane, natural rubber and other materials.

What are flexible beam couplings used for?

Flexible beam couplings are used in a variety of motion-control applications, from aviation and lab equipment to robotics and medical devices. A common industrial application arises when a motor is connected to a pump. Factory automation equipment and other machine tools rely on flexible beam couplings to transmit power from a motor source.
