Mobile WiFi

Portable Wifi Routers are devices designed to provide a permanent or temporary wireless internet in the locations that have no conventional broadband. These pocket-size, wi-fi devices are also known as personal hotspots as they allow to connect up to 15 mobile WiFi devices. Whenever you travel, working on the go, walking around or just spending a time in the car or train, wifi router gives you a stable and fast internet connection.

How mobile Wi-Fi routers work?

A mobile internet connection is possible because of using SIM cards supported by local mobile network operators. It is a much better choice to buy an unlocked wifi router as the locked ones are restricted to use cards of the one specific operator. This can increase the costs of using the internet, especially roaming costs when you travel. Unlocked devices allow you to choose and use the cheapest operator wherever you are in the world. Once you choose the SIM suitable for your needs, simply insert it into the router and turn it on. After the setting up the password, you're ready to go and use the internet on all your devices.

How fast is a mobile wifi?

Mobile WiFi capability depends on mobile network speed. Routers can support technologies 3G, 4G or 4G+ and provide a connection speed up to 300Mbps.

What to consider before buying a pocket hotspot?

  • Speed - There are 3G, 4G and 4G+ mobile broadbands on the market. They all provide a decent internet connection but 4G+ is the fastest one being as twice as fast as 4G.
  • Unlocked or Locked - Locked devices are restricted to one network operator only. This means higher roaming and usage costs. Unlocked hotspots are able to work with any network provider from around the world.
  • Extra features - Some models are mobile routers only but some other ones feature options such as power bank to charge your mobile devices or even sending/receiving messages.
  • Size and weight - Mobile Wi-Fi devices are usually as small as a smartphone but some of them may be bigger and not suitable for carrying in the pocket.
